Ishizaka-ryu Traditional Japanese Acupuncture

Naoki has developed his own method of acupuncture based on the traditional Japanese Ishizaka-ryu single-needle, Shiatsu massage-derived school of acupuncture dedicated to treating the root cause of illness, rather than the symptoms. The Ishizaka-ryu school focuses on stimulating chi (energy) blockages along the primary meridians surrounding the entire spinal column to increase blood flow and utilize the body’s own healing power. While the traditional Ishizaka-ryu method uses a vertical motion of the needle, Naoki has enhanced the method by using a spiral motion of his supporting hand, making his treatments simultaneously gentler and more powerful.

Education & Licensure

Naoki graduated from Meiji School of Acupuncture & Moxibustion in Osaka, Japan in 1977. He then apprenticed with his teacher, Machida-sensei, who studied the Ishizaka-ryu style of acupuncture with her teacher to learn this unique style. In addition to holding his National Qualification in Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Japan, Naoki is a Diplomate in Acupuncture by the National Board Certification of the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He holds state licenses in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Martial Arts

Naoki also studied Hakko-ryu Koho (Imperial School) Shiatsu and Hakko-ryu Jujutsu at the Hakko-ryu Headquarters Dojo in Omiya, Japan in 1980. Both utilize acupuncture meridians as pressure points—in Shiatsu for healing and in Jujutsu for defending against an attacker. Currently, for maintaining his own physical health, Naoki practices three forms of martial arts that allow self-defense without violence to the attacker. He is a Master level in Hakko-ryu Jujutsu. He also practices Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai and Aikido, which both redirect the attacker’s energy to neutralize the violent force.

Food as Medicine

Naoki began studying Macrobiotics or traditional Japanese natural shokuyo (food therapy) in 1972 when a Western medicine doctor prescribed antibiotic treatment for a kidney infection, and he chose to heal himself by restoring balance in his body through food therapy. He continues to practice and teach natural food therapy.

Family

Naoki lives in Asheville, North Carolina with his wife, Eugenia, and their dog, Tobi. He has two daughters, one who practices acupuncture in the East Bay area of California, Mari Kubota, and another, Emi Kubota, who also lives in Asheville.

Testimonials

“Naoki Kubota gave me hope and healing when all other health professionals were unable to make the impact I needed to function. In 2011, I suffered a severe spine injury; my sacrum was unfused and several of my discs were ruptured, completely blocking the spinal canal of my lumbar spine. My right leg was numb, I had drop foot, I was incontinent and I was stuck bent in a 90-degree position due to muscle spasm. Needless to say, I could barely walk, the effort of breathing deeply made me scream in pain, and I couldn’t care for myself. I was rendered disabled and unable to care for myself; the damage to my spine was so severe and unstable that I was not a candidate for surgery.

I was desperate for help and a friend of mine told me about Naoki. She was able to avoid knee surgery with his help and she believed he could help me too. During my first session with him, I could feel my leg again while I was on his table. I cried with relief and hope, instead of pain and anguish. Indeed, Naoki is a miracle worker, a true healer and a human I will forever be grateful for. He gave me the physical function of my life back.

Within weeks of working with Naoki, I was able to stand up straight again and walk without a cane. Over months, I made enough progress with him that I was able to engage in physical therapy and start building my strength again. Today, I have my physical health back; I am able to care for myself, work and have fun again. I owe this to Naoki. I still meet with him several times a year to keep my spine as happy as it can be.

Before working with Naoki, I seemed destined to a life of pain, and possibly confinement to a bed. He gave me another option. Today, I can laugh without screaming, walk without pain and choose to focus on living the life I want to live, not just focusing on surviving or bearing the pain of my experience. I will forever be grateful to him for the gift of healing he has given me.”

“In 2003, I was struck by a horse’s hoof and suffered a closed-head injury, spending three days in the hospital. At the time, my neurologist prescribed medication which masked some of the debilitating symptoms that were a result of the accident, but no cure was available. He said that if my symptoms didn’t go away in 10 years they would be considered permanent.

At the time I had been dizzy, was unable to grip with my left hand or lift my left hand over my head and I could not lie flat or turn to the left or right quickly without suffering momentary blackouts. I could not look up straight or sleep soundly through the night, and I had constant, general pain all over my entire body.

After four acupuncture treatments with Naoki Kubota beginning in September 2015, my symptoms began going away, and they continue to improve. Today I can grip with my left hand and raise my left arm without any problem. I have no dizziness; I can look up and down, left and right; I can bend over, stoop down and kneel down without discomfort. The general pain has gone away, and I sleep restfully throughout the night.

I am still unable to do a few things, but I am optimistic that the remaining symptoms will gradually improve with more treatments.
